1. Describe the stasis in the play: where, when, who, what, etc. in a paragraph.

This play takes place between two characters, Vincent Chang and Bradley Yamashita who are both of Japanese decent and are American born where they draw the many similarities between themselves such as profession, ethnicity, goal to succeed in acting while they also have some differences such as age having more than a 30 year age difference. Vincent was known for taking stereotypical roles while Bradley was against this. The two end up meeting where they have conflicts but at the end they are able to learn from each other and offer mutually beneficial advice.

2. What is the intrusion?

The intrusion begins when Vincent and Bradley start competing with each other of who is a better actor.

3. What is the unique factor?

The unique factor is the day that Bradley and Vincent meet.

4. What is the dramatic question that should be answered by the end of the play?

Who will end up having a more successful career?

5. Provide an illustration of the two kinds of exposition that the play has in it.

One type of exposition is when we are told about the different characters in the beginning of the play. Another type of exposition is when we Bradley told Vincent about the stabbing incident.

6. Identify the most theatrical moment in the play and of what importance it seems to be.

The most theatrical moment in the play I would say is when the argument between Vincent and Bradley heighten.

7. List some of the themes of the play.

-Minority
-Competition
-Masculinity

8. Choose one of the two characters in the show and tell me why you decided to choose to discuss him. Then articulate what he wants and what are some obstacles that stand in the way of him getting what he wants?

Bradley Yamashita wants to become a big success in the acting business but at the same time he wishes to be featured in many different plays. However, the amount of roles available to both him and Vincent are both limited and very stereotypical which is not of his liking. Also, Vincent is, in a way, competition to him as well.

9. Describe some possible images in the play and how does the title help us understand the play.

I think the balcony is a strong image. This is where the two main characters make a bond between each other.

10. Briefly define the family relationships that are examined in the play.

There aren't really any notable blood family relationships. However, the two main characters are related in the sense of the bond they have. It almost seemed as if a mentor/mentee relationship with the new Japanese-American actor entering the scene while this veteran Japanese -American has already been in the business for so long.
